Zoomex Published a Transparency Report. It Withheld Every Number That Matters.

A transparency report that omits trading volume is not a transparency report. It is a press release with section headers. Zoomex's September 2026 disclosure — republished by BeInCrypto as though it were news — runs across eleven analytical categories and delivers almost nothing an auditor can use. I opened it expecting to reconcile numbers. There were no numbers to reconcile. No volume. No reserve total. No user-asset figure. No team. No funding round. No KYC procedure, despite a heading that promises "Individual KYC Explained" and then explains nothing. The only named third party is Hacken, cited without a report link, a date, or a scope. I have spent enough years reading exchange attestations to know the tell. When a firm brands itself "Transparent by Design" while withholding the four metrics that define solvency, the brand is the product. Post-FTX, proof of reserves became the industry's cheapest form of absolution. Exchanges learned that publishing a Merkle root buys more credibility per dollar than any licensing campaign. The genre has since metastasized into monthly transparency reports — documents engineered to rank in search, circulate on aggregators, and read as diligence without surviving it. Zoomex is a centralized derivatives venue. Not an L1. Not an L2. Not a DeFi protocol. That distinction matters, because the vocabulary of crypto — ecosystem, protocol, "decentralized" — gets applied to custodial order books and manufactures an impression of technical decentralization that does not exist. Users deposit assets. The platform holds them. The platform can freeze them, reprice them, delist them, or lose them. That is the entire trust model, stated plainly. Its positioning is familiar: a long-tail challenger against Binance, OKX, and Bybit, differentiating on product breadth rather than liquidity depth. The September report leans hard on that breadth — 50+ equity perpetuals, 6 ETF perpetuals, 70 prediction markets, a copy-trading hub, a Formula 1 sponsorship with Haas, and a $5 million USDT trading tournament. None of that is a moat. All of it is a cost line. The macro backdrop the report borrows for legitimacy: a rate decision week, a failed US market-structure vote, and a month in which crypto lost roughly $770 million to exploits. Bitcoin still rose 6%. Zoomex uses that resilience as atmosphere. It says nothing about what it means for a venue holding customer assets through the same month. The headline performance claim is sub-10-millisecond execution. Self-reported. No third-party latency benchmark. No published order-book depth. No fill-rate data. In my 2020 back-testing work on Uniswap V2 liquidity provision, the most useful lesson was that a venue's advertised speed tells you nothing about the price you actually receive — slippage and depth do. Zoomex publishes the former and conceals the latter. Dual liquidity pools are standard CEX engineering, not differentiation. Table stakes. The proof-of-reserves architecture deserves more scrutiny than it received. A Merkle-tree attestation proves the asset side of the ledger at a snapshot instant. It does not prove liabilities. It does not prove the same bitcoin is not pledged to three venues. It does not prove the snapshot was representative. That is the structural limit of the entire PoR genre, and Zoomex inherits it fully. The Hacken engagement appears as an institutional name without a report, a date, or a defined scope — code audit, process audit, or PoR-only review? Unanswerable from the text. Mark it: audit transparency insufficient. The economics section is where the design becomes legible. Zoomex has no native token. No supply schedule, no unlock cliff, no team allocation, no treasury — because there is no token. That eliminates one risk category outright: no unlock overhang, no securities classification of a platform asset, no governance theater. It also eliminates the only mechanism by which users could share platform upside. Fee revenue accrues to the operating company. Users receive marketing budget. And that budget is doing the work. A prize pool "up to" $5 million USDT. A zero-fee TradFi promotion capped at $100 rebate per account. Copy-trading loss compensation capped at $50 per account in week one. Read the caps. They are not built for size. They are built for acquisition volume — thousands of small accounts, not hundreds of large ones. That is a customer-acquisition line item dressed as a rewards program, and the "up to" on the headline number means actual disbursement may be a fraction of it. Then the number that should stop every reader. Three million registered users across 35+ jurisdictions. And the most active market on the platform — a five-minute Bitcoin up/down contract — did roughly $11 million in volume. If both figures hold, active participation is a rounding error against the registered base. Registered users are not users. They are a marketing metric, and this platform is engineered to manufacture them. Solvency, liquidity, and retention are all undisclosed — the three numbers a real transparency report exists to publish. Regulation is where the risk is most mispriced. Zoomex lists four registrations: Canada MSB, US MSB via FinCEN, US NFA, Australia AUSTRAC. Every one is a registration, not a license. MSB registration is an anti-money-laundering filing. It is not approval of a derivatives business. It carries no capital adequacy requirement, no segregation mandate, no conduct supervision. The gap between registered and licensed is the gap between filing a form and passing an exam. That gap matters acutely for the equity and ETF perpetuals. Settlement is in USDT. No underlying share is delivered. No custody arrangement for real equities is disclosed. What exists is a synthetic exposure contract, cleared internally, priced off an external reference. In most major jurisdictions that structure sits between an unregistered security-based swap and a contract for difference, and neither the CFTC nor the SEC has been generous about the boundary. A failed US market-structure vote this month means the boundary is enforced by case-by-case discretion rather than statute. Discretionary enforcement against an anonymous operator is not a foundation. The team is anonymous. No members, no names, no prior entities, no jurisdiction of incorporation. No funding round, no investors, no valuation. Yet the platform sponsors a Formula 1 team — a commitment running into eight figures annually — and advertises a $5 million prize pool. Capital intensity without disclosed capital source is the most reliable precursor to exchange failure I know. In 2022 I worked through reserve attestations for mid-tier venues and found one carrying a 70% BTC shortfall against reported user balances. That platform was also loud, also generous with promotions, and also unwilling to publish volume. Anonymity plus custody plus marketing spend. That combination has a history. It is not a long history of successes. Here is what the bulls get right, and I will not pretend otherwise. The TradFi-perpetual thesis is real. Tokenized equity exposure is one of the structural shifts of this cycle, and the venues that build competent synthetic-equity infrastructure now will own a durable product line. Shipping 50+ equity perpetuals and 6 ETF perpetuals is execution, not vaporware. Seventy prediction markets, forty-nine of them long-dated, is more product depth than most "decentralized" competitors have shipped in two years. And the absence of a token is, in one narrow sense, honest. I have audited governance systems where delegation concentrated voting power into a handful of KOL wallets while the community congratulated itself on decentralization. A platform that simply says "we decide" is less deceptive than one that performs a vote. The multisig does not lie about being a multisig. Check the multisig. Always. That is the full extent of the defense. Product breadth without disclosed liquidity is a brochure. No token is cleaner than a bad token. It is not the same as a good one. The report's real function is to occupy the search result for "Zoomex transparency" before anyone else can. That is a marketing objective, not a disclosure objective. So treat it accordingly. Ask for four figures: monthly volume, total customer liabilities, reserve coverage ratio at a stated timestamp, and the Hacken report as a PDF with its scope attached. Follow the hash, not the hype. If those four numbers never appear, the report has told you something after all — just not the thing it intended. On-chain evidence never sleeps. Neither should you.
